Turtle & Teal update

Just to let you know that we are busy crafting, creating and sewing and will be posting a selection of our latest creations in the next few months. In the meantime, we’ve noticed that a number of our favourite shops have a love of teal too…  We’re particularly impressed with Selfridges Project Ocean exhibition and its focus on the harm caused to sea life from plastic bags and bottles. And our new find is Pitfield London, just off Old Street – it’s a lovely café and emporium of curiosities, vintage and retro furniture and gifts. We love it!

Sew turtle!

We have Make it & Love it to thank for the sewing pattern for our turtle ‘mascot’. If you love turtles as much as we do, these are some more turtle projects:

We definitely want to try the delightful turtle pin cushion with sewing kit from Craft Passion which includes a pattern.

We also love the sea turtle softie from Positively Splendid.

It’s the gorgeous fabric that makes Myrtle the Turtle from Purl Bee so adorable.

Toby the PJ Turtle from Sew 4 Home, includes a pocket for pyjamas and would make a great gift.

Do get in touch if you have any other recommendations or photos of turtles you’ve sewn – we will add them to our blog!

Zip it!

We’ve been experimenting with different ways to insert zips. The main photo (the gorgeous fabric is ruby star shining by Melody Miller) shows a zipped pouch using a technique Sarah found on a tutorial by Melly Sews. It’s quicker than the usual method and this tutorial features a video plus a description so it’s easy to follow. Our tip: make sure the lining and outer seams are completely lined up when sewing them together – otherwise the zip won’t lie straight.

Our favourite local sewing place, Sew Over It (the blue and yellow wash bag, bottom right photo, was made at one of their workshops!) also has plenty of zipper tips on its blog.

Of course, if making it yourself isn’t your bag, look out for the Turtle & Teal accessories range which will be on sale soon!

Making memories

Fiona created this delightful cushion cover from some of her daughter’s outgrown outfits. It’s the perfect way to preserve the memories and gorgeous fabrics of childhood – or any era – and makes a lovely gift. Commissions taken – if you would like us to create a similar cushion cover from favourite items of clothing, do get in touch.
