We’ve added more photos on our Makes page – cushions, lavender bags and accessories in gorgeous vintage and country-style fabrics. Here’s a taster:
As promised, here are some of our favourite fabric shops in London and further afield. Do get in touch with your recommendations.
The Cloth Shop: this small shop on Portobello Road stocks gorgeous natural fabrics including Swedish linens
MacCullock & Wallis: fabulous fabric and haberdashery online and in their London store on Poland Street, W1
The Cloth House: online fabric and haberdashery plus a shop on Berwick Street, W1
Liberty: needs no explanation (but a large wallet perhaps!)
Fabrics Galore: 54 Lavender Hill, SW11: a small shop crammed with fabrics include Liberty.
The Wimbledon Sewing Machine Company, 292-312 Balham High Road, London SW17 7AA
020 8767 4724: this slightly old-fashioned shop (which is more Balham/Tooting than Wimbledon) is packed to the rafters with fabrics and haberdashery
Sew Over It: the lovely sewing café in Clapham and Islington runs sewing courses and stocks fabrics and sewing kits – also available online. Their founder, Lisa Comfort, has also written a blog on her favourite fabric shops in London.
The Guardian lists its top ten fabric shops in the UK – it’s worth reading the comments underneath for more recommendations.
We discovered some gorgeous fabrics – well, Fiona did – at a little shop in Kent called The Sewing Space. These fat quarters proved to be irresistible – we will show you what Fiona makes with them in a future blog, plus some other ideas of what to create with all the gorgeous fat quarters we keep buying. Plus we are in the middle of compiling a list of best fabric shops – local to us in south west London and also further afield. We will share them in our next blog. Get in touch if you have any recommendations.
